Light over darkness, grace not fear

Halloween night is full of costumes, candy and friends. This song is our invitation: nobody has to hide, and nobody is too far. Whether you dressed up tonight or stayed home, you are welcome. Turn on the light and bring a friend.

Inspired by John 1:5 and 1 John 4:18 (paraphrased).

Lyrics

Verse 1

Masks on the corner, porch lights low
Paper bats spinning in the window glow
Everybody's out here chasing a scare
But I got a feeling there's something better out there

Pre-chorus

No need to hide, no need to run
The dark never stood a chance against the Son

Chorus

Turn on the light, turn on the light
No fear, no fear, we're shining bright
Come as you are, mask and all
Grace knows your name, so answer the call

Verse 2

Ghost stories whispered under the moon
Candy in a pillowcase, a borrowed costume
Nobody's too far and nobody's too lost
Love walked into the dark and paid the cost

Bridge

The light keeps shining in the dark
And the dark can't put it out
Perfect love drives out the fear
Lift it up and shout it out

Outro

Turn on the light

If you're searching: how to be saved

The light in the song is real. Here is what the Bible says (King James Version):

We all fall short

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

God loves you

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

Believe and call on Him

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9

It's a gift

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8

If you want to start, you can pray right now in your own words: tell God you've sinned, that you believe Jesus died for you and rose again, and ask Him to be your Lord. Then find a Bible-believing church near you and tell someone.
